Trijicon RMR Type 2 Adjustable LED (RM06)
The Trijicon RMR Type 2 set the standard for duty-grade pistol optics and remains one of the most trusted red dots on the market today. Trusted by military personnel, law enforcement officers, competitive shooters, and everyday carriers alike, the RMR earned its reputation by being one of the first pistol optics capable of surviving the abuse of slide-mounted use while maintaining zero.
Its patented forged aluminum housing is designed to absorb impacts and redirect stress away from the lens, creating an optic that can withstand years of hard use in demanding environments.
The RM06 3.25 MOA Adjustable LED model is the most popular version in the lineup, offering an excellent balance between precision at distance and fast target acquisition at close range.

Our Thoughts
While it wasn't the first pistol-mounted red dot ever produced, the Trijicon RMR is the optic that truly popularized slide-mounted pistol optics—and for good reason.
Its reputation is built on three things:
-
Outstanding durability
-
Excellent battery life
-
Proven reliability
The RMR simply works. It holds zero exceptionally well, survives repeated impacts and slide cycling, and continues performing under conditions that would damage many competing optics.
Even with newer optics offering larger windows and additional features, the RMR remains one of the best choices available for concealed carry and duty use. If your priority is maximum reliability with minimal maintenance, it's difficult to recommend anything over an RMR.
The side-mounted buttons are easy to access, allowing shooters to manually adjust brightness, enable Auto Mode, or activate Button Lock Mode to prevent accidental changes.
Things to Consider
No optic is perfect, and there are two trade-offs worth mentioning.
Blue-Tinted Glass
Like all traditional RMRs, the lens has a noticeable blue tint. This coating is part of the design that helps deliver the outstanding battery life Trijicon is known for. If you're shooting correctly and staying target-focused, the tint quickly disappears from your awareness. However, when simply looking through the optic outside of shooting, the blue hue is more apparent than on many newer designs.
Bottom-Loading Battery
Because of the RMR's exceptionally low profile, the battery is accessed from the bottom of the optic. This means you'll need to remove the optic from the slide whenever it's time to replace the battery.
Fortunately, this isn't something you'll do often. Depending on your brightness setting, battery life ranges from approximately 1 to 5 years. In our experience, running the optic one or two clicks below maximum brightness routinely delivers around two years of battery life without issue.
One tip we recommend is writing the battery replacement date on top of the optic with a silver paint marker or simply replacing the battery every year on your birthday. It's an easy way to ensure your optic is always ready without wondering how old the battery is.
Brightness Recommendation
The RM06 includes an automatic brightness mode, which can be activated by pressing both brightness buttons simultaneously. While Auto Mode performs reasonably well, we generally recommend running the optic in manual mode at one or two clicks below maximum brightness. This provides a consistently bright aiming point across a wide range of lighting conditions while still delivering outstanding battery life.
If you're looking for an optic that has been proven through years of real-world use and continues to set the benchmark for reliability, the Trijicon RMR Type 2 RM06 remains one of the finest choices available. It may not have every modern feature, but when absolute durability and dependable performance matter most, the RMR continues to be the optic others are measured against.
