Ergonomic Design
Unlike a traditional flat magazine release button, the EMR-HC features a subtle curved face that follows the natural contour of your fingertip.
Combined with continuous horizontal serrations, this creates a self-centering contact surface that helps prevent your finger from sliding vertically during activation. The result is a more consistent, confident magazine release—especially when wearing gloves or operating under stress.
Optimized for .308 Platforms
The EMR-HC has a slightly taller profile than a standard mil-spec magazine release button, making it easier to locate and activate.
For AR-10 and .308 rifles, this additional height is an advantage, allowing shooters to use standard AR-15 magazine catches and ambidextrous magazine release systems without excessive protrusion beyond the magazine release fence.
Because of this geometry, Forward Controls Design recommends the EMR-HC primarily for .308 AR platforms.
AR-15 Compatibility
The EMR-HC is fully compatible with AR-15 rifles, but its increased height means it extends farther beyond the magazine release fence than a standard magazine button.
Since only a small amount of travel is required to release an AR-15 magazine, the taller profile may increase the likelihood of unintended magazine releases if the rifle is pressed against gear, barricades, or body armor.
For duty and defensive AR-15 builds, we generally recommend the standard Forward Controls Design EMR, which maintains a lower profile while still improving ergonomics.
Premium Construction
The EMR-HC is precision machined from billet 4140 steel and finished with a durable QPQ Black Nitride treatment for exceptional wear and corrosion resistance.
Like every Forward Controls Design component, it's built to withstand years of hard use while maintaining a refined fit and finish.
Our Thoughts
The EMR-HC is an excellent example of Forward Controls Design solving a small problem with thoughtful engineering.
The curved face and continuous serrations genuinely improve the feel of the magazine release, and on AR-10 rifles, it's one of our favorite magazine buttons. The additional height makes reloads easier without introducing meaningful drawbacks on the larger platform.
For AR-15 duty rifles, however, we'd steer most shooters toward the lower-profile EMR. It offers nearly the same ergonomic improvements while reducing the possibility of an accidental magazine release.
If you're building a precision AR-10, battle rifle, or competition rifle and want one of the nicest magazine release buttons available, the EMR-HC is an outstanding choice.
