The Forward Controls Design TGF (Trigger Guard, Forward Controls) is a premium billet trigger guard designed to improve ergonomics, durability, and magazine handling without unnecessary bulk. Precision machined from 7075-T6 aluminum, the TGF features a streamlined profile with softened edges, an enlarged winter-style opening, and a unique angled front edge that makes magazine insertion smoother.
Designed specifically for mil-spec forged AR-15 lower receivers, the TGF blends seamlessly into the receiver while eliminating the gap commonly found between the trigger guard and pistol grip.

Purpose-Built Ergonomics
The TGF is more than just a larger trigger guard.
Its winter-style profile maximizes usable space in front of the trigger, allowing easier access while wearing gloves without adding unnecessary bulk where it isn't needed. The rear portion remains compact since that area is largely inaccessible during normal operation, resulting in a cleaner, more refined design.
Every edge has been carefully radiused to eliminate sharp corners and improve overall comfort.
Improved Magazine Handling
One of the TGF's signature features is its canted front edge.
The angled profile helps guide magazines into the magwell during reloads, making insertion feel smoother and more natural. It's a subtle refinement that reflects Forward Controls Design's focus on functional improvements rather than cosmetic changes.
Secure Installation
The TGF combines two proven attachment methods for maximum reliability.
The front of the trigger guard is secured using a flush-mounted set screw, eliminating the need to drive a roll pin through the front receiver ears and reducing the risk of damage during installation.
The rear retains the traditional roll pin, providing the strength and long-term security of the original mil-spec design without the possibility of loosening over time.
Note: A 1/16" Allen wrench is required for the front set screw.
Compatibility
The TGF is designed for mil-spec forged AR-15 lower receivers.
It fits most forged lowers from manufacturers including Colt, BCM, LMT, and others. Due to variations in forging dimensions, appearance may differ slightly between manufacturers.
Please note:
- The TGF is fixed and does not swing down like a standard mil-spec trigger guard.
- Some ZEV-produced lower receivers have shorter trigger guard ears, which may expose a small portion of the trigger guard. This is cosmetic only and does not affect function.
Our Thoughts
The TGF is another excellent example of Forward Controls Design improving a familiar component through thoughtful engineering instead of flashy styling.
The enlarged trigger opening is comfortable without feeling oversized, the angled front edge genuinely helps during reloads, and the fit and finish are exceptional. We also appreciate the hybrid installation method—using a set screw where it makes sense while retaining the proven roll pin where maximum strength matters.
