Our Thoughts
In our opinion, the Trijicon SRO is the gold standard for open-emitter pistol optics.
The first thing you'll notice is the massive viewing window. Combined with the extremely thin bezel, the SRO practically disappears while shooting, allowing you to remain target-focused instead of searching for the dot or being distracted by the optic housing. For fast follow-up shots and transitions between targets, few optics can match the shooting experience the SRO provides.
The top-loading battery compartment is another major advantage. Battery changes are quick and easy without removing the optic from the slide, eliminating the need to re-confirm zero after routine maintenance.
Large side-mounted buttons make brightness adjustments simple, even with gloves, and the optic offers more than enough daylight brightness for use in bright outdoor conditions. Like other Trijicon optics, the SRO also includes Auto Brightness Mode and Button Lock Mode, giving shooters the flexibility to configure the optic however they prefer.
Things to Consider
The SRO's biggest strength is also one of its compromises.
Durability
The thin bezel and oversized window create an incredible sight picture, but they also leave the front portion of the optic more vulnerable to direct impacts than an RMR or RMR HD. While the forged housing is extremely durable and perfectly capable of surviving normal slide-mounted use, repeated hard impacts or significant drops directly onto the optic can damage it.
If you're running an SRO on a duty pistol, we strongly recommend using a holster that covers the top of the optic, such as many Safariland duty holsters. This allows the holster—not the optic—to absorb impacts during everyday use.
Automatic Brightness Reset
After approximately 16 hours without a button press, the SRO automatically returns to Auto Brightness Mode. This is designed to maximize battery life, but shooters who prefer a specific manual brightness setting should either:

Enable Button Lock Mode, which maintains your selected brightness while preventing accidental adjustments.
For most users, this is a minor consideration that quickly becomes part of a daily equipment check.
