Improved Over Mil-Spec
Rather than reinventing the castle nut, Forward Controls Design refined the original military specification in several meaningful ways.
Compared to a standard castle nut, the CN5F features:
- 25% longer and deeper staking notches for a stronger mechanical lock
- Four equally spaced staking locations, ensuring multiple staking points remain accessible during installation
- Coarse front serrations that provide additional grip when hand-tightening the castle nut before final torque
These improvements make installation easier while enhancing long-term durability.
Designed to Stay Put
A properly installed receiver extension should never loosen during normal use.
Military technical manuals specify torquing the castle nut to 38–42 ft-lbs and staking it in two locations. The CN5F was designed around that philosophy, providing larger staking surfaces that make proper staking easier and more secure.
While quick-detach components have their place, your receiver extension is not one of them. Once properly installed and staked, the CN5F is built to remain locked in place until intentionally removed.
